Cepsa also produces Alpha Methyl Styrene (AMS), used as a precursor for the production of plastics and cumene for the production of surface coatings surfactants, propylene oxide and as a petrol additive.
Cumene
The main use of cumene is for the manufacture of cumene hydroperoxide, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of high value-added chemicals: phenol and acetone. In addition, it is used in surfactants, in the production of propylene oxide and as an additive in the petrol pool.
The main use of alpha-methylstyrene (AMS) is for the the production of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), a high impact-resistant thermoplastic. Other uses range from coatings to applications in the cosmetics industry.
